His Shadow by M. Miller

When I woke up, he was gone

Not like the sun,

Whose presence return each morning

With golden fingers of light

That brightens the dark sky,

But gone like the time I spent with him

The moment captured in a white dress and garden roses

The only time I saw him was at mid-night

When the blues touched my soul,

And my memory brings him to life

I told him of my days,

All the sorrows I faced,

Above all, how much I’d miss him

I reached for his lips, and he leaned forward for mine

With the silence, I heard the alarm bells

When I woke, he was gone.
